Well, not really assembly - but extensive preparation. According to the instructions that come with the product, you cannot actually use it until you remove the lacquer. It's actually made for display purposes. Here are the instructions that come with the item:
- Boil a large pot of water and baking soda.
- Submerse the item and boil for 5 to 10 minutes to soften the lacquer coating.
- Scrub the item in warm, soapy water with nylon scrubber to remove the softened coating.
- Clean with a copper cleaner.
- Repeat this process for any part of the item that was not submerged in the boiling solution.
- In time, your item may darken or tarnish.
This was a time-consuming and labor-intensive process. You really have to scrub hard and get into all the nooks and crannies.
Also, the brandy glass that comes with it is ridiculously small. Fortunately, the product is still usable with a standard size snifter.
After that, it worked well enough. Know that you can't just leave your snifter on it and expect it to maintain a perfect temperature. Of course, what can you expect from a candle? You do have to take it on and off to keep your brandy from getting too hot.
